W Bro Tony Reed was recently presented with his 60 Year Certificate of Service in a memorable and well-supported evening that celebrated not only his remarkable dedication to Braunton Lodge, but also the wider value of long and faithful service within the North Devon Community.
The presentation was made by W Bro Charles Yelland, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master for Devonshire Freemasons, in recognition of six decades of committed membership and contribution. It was a fitting tribute to a Mason whose journey began on Monday 22nd November 1965, when he was initiated into Braunton Lodge after being proposed by his father, and seconded by John Hodgson, one of his former school teachers. Tony was then passed on Monday 28th February 1966, and raised on Monday 23rd May 1966, marking the beginning of a lifelong involvement in Freemasonry.
Over the years, Tony has remained a steadfast and respected member of the Lodge. His dedication was further recognised when, on Monday 25th September 1989, he became Worshipful Master of Braunton Lodge. His continued commitment is reflected again this year, as he is due to be promoted in April to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Junior Warden (PPrJGW).
Long service of this kind is about far more than years alone. In Devon, men such as Tony provide continuity, example, and a deep sense of community spirit. Their presence helps bind generations together, preserving traditions while encouraging new members to play a meaningful part in local life. Such dedication strengthens not only the lodge, but also the wider community it serves through fellowship, charity, and mutual support.
The evening itself reflected that spirit perfectly, with a strong turnout of members and visitors joining the celebration. The event clearly showed the high regard in which tony is held by the brethren across the area.

The celebration concluded with a festive board at the Williams Arms in Braunton, where members and guests were able to mark a truly exceptional milestone in the company of a brother whose service has been an example to all.
