On Saturday 28th June over 500 attended the Provincial Grand Master’s Summer Ball, marking an incredible milestone: 250 years since the formation of the Province of Devonshire.
Brethren, along with their families and friends from across the Province, gathered at Sandy Park in Exeter for a truly spectacular evening.
Guests were warmly welcomed on arrival by the melodic sounds of the Tiverton Town Band, setting the perfect tone for the evening. In true Masonic tradition, many made a beeline for the bar to enjoy a few pre-dinner aperitifs and socialise with familiar faces and new friends alike.
Once called to table, and following a brief round of housekeeping, W. Bro. David Wilson took to the microphone to introduce our Provincial Grand Master, Nicholas Ball who extended a heartfelt welcome to all in attendance.
He also gave well deserved thanks to the event’s organising team;

Grace was eloquently given by W. Bro. Andrew Yelland, Assistant Grand Chaplain, before guests were treated to a sumptuous four-course meal served with impeccable timing and style by the Sandy Park team.
Our host for the evening, Paul Sylvester, then took centre stage to kick off the entertainment. First up were the Disco Divas, who had the dance floor packed within seconds—a state it would remain in for the rest of the night!
As the energy built, headline act The Bohemians took the stage, turning the venue into a full-blown rock concert. With iconic anthems from Queen ringing out, the atmosphere was electric—hands clapping, voices raised, and arms waving in perfect harmony.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the American Four Tops closed the show in style, keeping spirits high and feet moving right up until the final curtain at 12:30 a.m.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Masonic gathering without a charitable flourish.
Two raffles held during the evening raised a remarkable £4,670 for Masonic causes—proof that generosity and celebration go hand-in-hand.
All in all, it was an unforgettable evening, perhaps best summed up in the words of our Provincial Grand Master:
“One of the best social events I have attended in over 40 years within Freemasonry.”
