Bovey Tracey Initiation
In February, the Bovey Tracey Lodge No.8698, initiated Bro. James Lister into Freemasonry.
James had his interest in Freemasonry aroused by his father, W. Bro Robert Lister. Due to James being in Devon and not knowing any Freemasons, he approached the Province via the website, and attended one of the induction days at Gandy Street. The lodge attending 9 of the monthly meetings at Torquay, so as to get to know James, and he could get to meet the Lodge. W. Bro Adrian Hammett ensured that James was invited to social events to further build the relationship with the lodge.
Needless to say, James was still convinced that he wanted to become a freemason, like his father. James is a safety advisor on North Sea oil rigs, and as such, was helicoptered to Aberdeen the day before his initiation. James then drove to his home in Bovey Tracey, while his father travelled across from Surrey. Fortunately all journies were made safely and on time.
The ceremony was exemplory and the Lodge added to the event by allowing W. Bro Robert Lister to explain the history behind white gloves and present a pair to his son, for when he becomes a Master Mason.
Attendance were 36 brethren, including 15 visitors, of which 3 were from the membership team, to support Bro James on his big night.
We all enjoyed a wonderful four course meal at the festive board, with great company, and the brethren’s generosity raised £273 for charity.
