There are many memorable moments in Freemasonry, but some stand out as truly special. On Friday 7th November, such an evening occurred for Lodge of Construction 9892 when a Grandson followed his Grandfather into the Craft in a ceremony filled with pride, heritage and family unity.
The new member, Brother Kaiden Smith, was initiated by none other than his grandfather, Dennis Palmer, who is also the Immediate Past Master of the Lodge. It is a rare and deeply personal honour for a family members to conduct the ceremony, and understandably Dennis described himself as a “Very Proud Grandad” as he welcomed his Grandson as a Brother.
Although Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation, centred on charity, community, and self-improvement, its ceremonies are usually delivered by the Master of the Lodge. On this special occasion, the Master Bradley Harris graciously invited Dennis to take the chair and lead the initiation.
The evening drew strong support, with members travelling from across the two Provinces of Devonshire and Somerset, demonstrating the strength of friendship and fraternity that Freemasonry inspires.
Alongside Dennis, Biff Bowden was the Junior Deacon, guiding Kaiden through his first steps in Freemasonry. Howard Pope, Sid Lund, Steve Wilkinson and Dave Turney all contributed to the work of the evening.
Of particular note was the moment when Keith Bower delivered the Charge After Initiation – a historic address which welcomes a new Brother and sets out the values that the Craft strives to uphold. His delivery was described as a highlight of the ceremony, leaving a lasting impression on the Lodge’s newest member.
Like many Lodges, Lodge of Construction is proud to be attracting younger members, individuals keen to take part in the charitable activities and personal development while becoming part of a strong, supportive community. The initiation of Kaiden serves as a wonderful example of Freemasonry continuing through generations, supported by family tradition and shared values.
