On Sunday, 24th August 2025, the Province of Devonshire came together for a truly memorable Family Fun Day at Middlemore, Exeter. Blessed with good weather and a wonderful community spirit, families and friends enjoyed a day filled with laughter, food, entertainment, and activities for all ages.
The highlight for many was the hog roast and barbecue, which kept visitors well fed throughout the day. Alongside the food tent, there was a licensed bar and plenty of sweet treats to keep the energy levels high.
Children had an endless choice of fun with bouncy castles, assault courses, and slides, while the more daring tried their hand at the ever-popular bucking bronco ride. Shouts of encouragement and laughter echoed around the grounds as participants clung on for as long as they could before tumbling into the inflatable arena.
Another big attraction was the miniature train rides, where young and old alike enjoyed a gentle trip around the track. It was heart-warming to see generations sharing in the simple joy of a train ride together.
Entertainment was plentiful, with live music performances and morris dancing bringing a wonderful atmosphere to the event. Singers performed a variety of songs throughout the afternoon, creating the perfect backdrop for families relaxing on the grass or enjoying their food. The vintage-style singers added a touch of nostalgia, and many visitors stopped to join in the fun, dancing and singing along.
Also in attendance was Gerald Slater, raising vital funds for the local Teddies for Loving Care campaign. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure everyone felt welcome, and their efforts helped raise funds for charitable initiatives supported by the Province.
A special mention must go to the children’s activities that kept the younger guests entertained from start to finish. From bouncing and sliding to exploring new games, there was never a dull moment. The sight of smiling faces and excited chatter summed up the whole spirit of the day.
The event was not just about fun and entertainment but also about bringing the community together. Friends reconnected, families spent quality time together, and new friendships were formed in the relaxed and joyful atmosphere.
We are delighted to report that the day was a huge success, with over 300 attendees joining us. Thank you to everyone who came along, to all our volunteers, entertainers, and stallholders, and especially to those who helped behind the scenes to make the day possible.
We look forward to welcoming you all back next year for another day of family fun, friendship, and community spirit.
