The Provincial Grand Mentor, Chris Bird, was very pleased to present the first Solomon Academy Diploma to be presented in the Province of Devonshire.
The hard working recipient of this certificate was Brian Ross, currently the master of Loyal Lodge of Industry 421 based in South Molton.
Solomon is the virtual learning environment set up by our Grand Lodge, UGLE, to provide important understanding of the traditions and history associated with Freemasonry. There are a number of different lessons on the system, with the 4 main modules corresponding to the 4 ceremonies of Freemasonry: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, Master Mason and Royal Arch Companion. After completing each module, you are awarded with a certificate which you can print out. After completing all 4 modules, you are awarded the Solomon Academy Diploma.
Solomon allows any Freemason, from the newest initiate to the longest serving Grand Officer, to make a daily advancement in their Masonic knowledge. It is a chance to keep learning even during your unit’s summer break, and it allows you to learn more about our various ceremonies.
Brian’s achievement is not only significant within Devonshire – he is among only around 170 Freemasons across the country to have completed the Solomon Academy Diploma out of the roughly 55,000 who has already registered.
