The Provincial Executive is looking to establish a new Learning and Development team across Devonshire to work with the Provincial Learning and Development Officer in an exciting challenge.

We are therefore seeking expressions of interest from any brother of any rank who has an interest in becoming a member of the Provincial L&D team.

The United Grand Lodge of England recognises that modern society places increasing value on competitive individualism and encouragement to act solely in one’s own unconstrained self-interest. We strongly believe that in there is a place for Freemasonry in helping contemporary young men reengage with a sense of the duty and service they owe to themselves and others in society, becoming better men.

The Province is creating the L&D team to work with brethren to facilitate a daily increase in masonic knowledge which goes beyond enjoyment of the social interaction and charitable activities promoted by masonic lodges. The philosophy and morality associated with masonic ritual, created over at least three centuries, have the capability to help masons adopt ethical patterns of behaviour which mark us out in the modern world as people to be admired and imitated. Attaining a deeper understanding of the allegorical layers contained in our ritual should enable masons to become better men through skilled reflective practice.

Paulo Coelho (2021) says that “the world is changed by our example not by our opinion” and we are convinced that enabling masonic learning leads to personal development and ethical conduct, thereby promoting masonry in the wider world, increased interest in membership of the order, as well as an improvement in overall social wellbeing.
