Red Teddy was kindly welcomed to Devonshire by the wonderful nurses at Louisa Cary Children’s Ward at Torbay Hospital, Torquay.
Nurses Amanda Bray, Katie Strange, Christine Banks (Play Specialist) and Amanda Cooper brought along some of the TLC bears that help them calm the children. One of the nurses said that when a child needs to be admitted to hospital, they put a teddy peeping out from under the pillow. When the child sees it there is immediately something to talk about between the patient and nurse which helps settle the child. When the child is told they may keep the bear they are absolutely delighted!
TLC Devonshire started in 2008 and have donated an amazing 69,760 teddies to 8 hospitals, 2 Adoption Courts, and Torbay Foster Parents. This amazing work is organised by W. Bro Keith Bowyer and his team and funded by Devonshire Freemasons.
Red Teddy visited Brixham and was impressed by the fishing boats, yachts and the colourful houses lining the harbour. He was wondering how to get to Cornwall when he happened to spy the Torbay Lifeboat. He spoke to the Coxswain who kindly offered to give him a free lift!
