A remarkable milestone in Freemasonry was celebrated on 24th March 2026, when Worshipful Brother Robert (Rob) Rew PPrJGW received his 50 year certificate of service to Freemasonry.
The certificate was presented at a special meeting of St Andrew Lodge No. 4097 by Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Dr Reuben Ayres, on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master Right Worshipful Brother Nicholas A Ball.
Rob’s Fifty Years in Freemasonry reflect a lifetime of dedication, friendship, and service. He was initiated into Hartington Lodge No. 916 in Eastbourne on 12th March 1976. He later moved to Devon in 1996 and joined St Andrew Lodge No. 4097 on 17th December 1997. He went on to serve as Worshipful Master during the Lodge’s centenary year in 2022-2023, a particularly fitting chapter in his long and distinguished Masonic journey.
Outside Freemasonry, Rob also enjoyed an outstanding professional career. A retired doctor, he served with distinction in general practice and palliative care. He worked as a forensic medical examiner and also as a clinical assistant in midwifery. His commitment to caring for others has clearly been a defining thread throughout both his professional and Masonic life.
Rob’s Masonic service extends widely across the family of orders. As well as the Craft and Royal Arch, he is a member of the Knights Templar, Rose Croix, and several other progressive orders. In recognition of his dedication, he has received provincial rank in many of them, and in May of this year he is due to receive Great Rank in Knights Templar.
The evening was a joyful and well-deserved celebration of a much admired Freemason whose contribution over five decades has left a lasting mark on all who have had the pleasure to know him. Rob’s example of service, humility, and commitment embodies so much of what Freemasonry seeks to encourage.
