Braving the forecasted heavy rain and thunderstorms, 16 brethren from across lodges in Torbay joined together to walk from Torquay to Brixham in the 3rd annual “Walk the Bay” event.
This year’s event was to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West, a specialist hospice space for children based in North Devon, also known as Little Bridge House.
The hospice provides important care for young people with life-limiting conditions, and was recently in the news as their patron, HM The Queen, visited to help them celebrate their 30th anniversary.
7 different lodges were represented in the walk and were also joined by partners. A much needed pit-stop in Paignton supplied them with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.
It wasn’t just a young man’s pursuit – one member proudly in his 80s did the entire walk with his walking stick.
Despite some truly biblical weather conditions on the day, the dark skies parted and it thankfully stayed relatively dry for the majority of the walk.
Donations came in from across the Province and even some from Northamptonshire and London to support such a worthy cause.
The total amount raised from the walk amounted to around £3,000 which was duly donated to the hospice.
