“A magnificent evening” was how one visitor described a very special meeting at Unity Lodge No. 1332 in Crediton, as the Lodge came together to celebrate not one, but two remarkable milestones in Masonic service.

On Thursday 18th June, the Brethren of Unity Lodge were joined by visitors and guests to honour W Bro John Coleman PPJGW and W Bro David White PPJGW, who have each completed 50 years of dedicated service to Freemasonry.

The evening was made even more memorable by the presentation of two 50-year certificates to W Bro John Coleman by RW Bro Michael Penny, Past Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Devonshire. These were presented on behalf of the Provincial Grand Masters of both Devonshire and Somerset, with W Bro John holding the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in both Provinces.

W Bro David White had previously received his 50-year certificate in December 2024, but due to various circumstances the Lodge had not been able to properly mark the occasion at that time. This meeting therefore provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate his achievement alongside that of W Bro John.

A 50-year certificate is a significant milestone in any Brother’s Masonic journey. To celebrate two such achievements on the same evening was a rare and very special occasion, representing a combined 100 years of service, commitment, friendship, and support for the Craft.

The Festive Board that followed was a joyous occasion, filled with warmth, laughter, and good fellowship. Speeches and memories were shared, and the evening was rounded off in fitting style with a celebratory cake decorated with the Provincial Apron of a Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden, kindly provided by the Worshipful Master’s mother.

Unity Lodge No. 1332 extends its warmest congratulations to W Bro John Coleman PPJGW and W Bro David White PPJGW on this outstanding achievement.

Their combined century of service is a wonderful example of dedication to Freemasonry, and an inspiration to Brethren across Devonshire and beyond.
